Bye-Bye QUALCOMM, Hello Nvidia? New RTX Spark APU

I didnโ€™t notice when it was announced a week ago, but Microsoft and Nvidia are partnering in the use of the new RTX Spark silicon in the next gen of Windows PCs. QUALCOMMโ€™s Windows on ARM deal has expired. Is Microsoft dumping them?

From the article: "...Spark is set to change the way you interact with Windows PCs forever with an AI agentic twist...."

Macbook Air

I've typically turned my nose up at all things Walled Garden (tm), but I've had the need to deploy software via XCode recently and broke down and bought a Mac Air M4 at the risk of @dstraussing myself.

I have to say, it's pretty impressive hardware, very lightweight, long battery life, I charge it with the same 30W charger block for my Fold. It's, shall I even say, a delight to use?!

I still hate Finder though... and there some things I still mechanically fumble with on the OS (i.e. "why can't I figure out how to copy this screenshot image and paste it into my presentation??!!??")

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ for Finder hatred. It works a little better if you use column view so you can see your path back a little better, but I never thought I'd find a file manager even weaker than File Explorer. I got my M4 MBP (base M4, 16gb/1tb) on a great bargain at Best Buy over a year ago ($1599 - well, great bargain by Apple standards) but the MBA design, weight, and dimensions are a dream in comparison...until I look at the screens and ports. The miniLED on the MBP is NOT a marketing ploy - it is gorgeous and extremely bright, and having 3 TB ports, HDMI, and SD card port (with a small adapter can use a mSDXC 1tb card for "slow storage"), it just offer a lot of bang for the buck, or is that extra pound, you carry.

I canโ€™t be tempted because I donโ€™t have a MacBook, but it looks interesting.

For those curious about the pen, in the FAQ it says:

Will other styluses work with Magic Screen?

Only USI certified styluses are supported.

Lenovo Thinkbook Auto Twist!!???!?

I just, I mean, uh

Like, I have an x61t, Lenovo knew how to do this, but they put a motor in the hinge so it can swivel around to follow you. It's creepy.

And yet, I'm about to start an online class involving sometimes talking and sometimes standing up to play viola and honestly, it looks kinda handy for that scenario.

I think I want one.

On one hand I'm glad to see a return of the traditional swivels screen device. Outside of 3rd party iPad Cases, that form factor has been dead and buried for a while. Fitting Lenovo would resurrect it. Its an interesting gimmick, but there are plenty of Ai USB Cameras that can track people the same as this. I could think of a few use cases where this can be useful, but none compelling enough to justify actually buying this.
