UPDATE Owen Grove (finally identiifed in a later version of the video) from the Verge has put it all together - "No MacPad for us" because Apple does not get a 15-30% cut of software and subscription revenues on the Mac compared to the iPhone and iPad (that and few other reasons, including cannibalizing Mac sales, just a good little piece of journalism - but could never find where they identified him):

I watched this one and have been increasingly considering this move for my situation at home ever since. I was debating on getting an M2 Pro Mac mini that I just leave on all the time with a VM program on my IPP to remote into it from anywhere else in my house. I don't have cellular on my IPP, so away will be more challenging, but there's lots of places with WiFi. Since we're so close to the likely M4 Mini, I'm waiting to see what improvements it gets. There's rumors they're making it an even smaller footprint, which would be nice for my crowded desk.
