The Surface Z is here! Or something like it

Remember when we were discussing the bifold / triscreen form factor? I dubbed it the "Surface Z" because the Z shows two folds. Well, it's here, from Huawei. The $4000 device is a do-not-recommend from The Verge, but it's cool that this form factor is indeed coming.

I haven’t bothered going to the Verge in a very long time so I don’t know when this stuff started happening:

Needless to say, I won’t be clicking on Verge links in the future. 🤑

MS allegedly stopping Laptop Studio production

The Verge is reporting that the SLS2 is no longer being produced. That's a shame, I like mine a lot, despite it being too thick, too heavy, and too slippery. Great screen, zippy, easy to switch modes, powerful dGPU.

Lost interest in all things Microsoft. Satya has just basically turned the company into a failed AI company. How the remain valuable is beyond my comrehension.

The new 12" Surface Pro is official

It's here, we have a new 12" Surface Pro alongside the previously released 13" Surface Pro. Odd to have two devices with nearly identical screen size, but there you have it!

Starting at $800 for the Platinum version. "Ocean" and Violet are $100 extra (sorry violetjack).

Especially for @dstrauss : the 12” weighs 1.5lbs, 25% less than the 13” model. That is a respectable weight loss for 15% less screen area.

  • No 5G on the 12” model

  • No surface port, just 2xUSB-C / USB 3.2 ports

  • No SSD for the 12” model, just soldered UFS flash storage

Some good comparison images with the Go, the 13", and the 12" here:

Picture of the new Surface Pro leaks

Via Mastodon: looks like the new 12" Surface Pro won't have vents. Or are they just hidden by the angle? 🧐

Edit: lots more info at NoteBookCheck (thanks @bierot)

This quote at Digital Trends bothers me the most: "The speculated 12-inch Surface Pro marks a return to a smaller form factor, recalling earlier models like the Surface Pro 3, but with modern Arm-based hardware."

This NEEDS to be "...recalling earlier models like the Surface Go..." I also know it's a little thing, but releasing a COMPUTER (not a phone) without a power supply is cheaping out to the max...
