The upcoming Win11 Start Menu redesign

Apparently the Start menu is being refreshed, see this Microsoft Design Blog post. The changes seem limited, the main one being that the "all apps" section is going to be a bunch of folders like in Apple's App Library (rightmost page on iPhones), instead of an endless list. Seems like an improvement.

It looks whatever vs the current start menu. I just want more consistency from Windows & MS in general.

One UI 7 and Android 15 updates - AI AI Oh?

Both my Fold 5 and Tab Ultra 9 have updated to one UI 7 and android 15. So far, some icons are different, the drop downs are different, and the app tray scrolls vertically instead of sideways.

It told me about a bunch of AI stuff I could do now after the install, but none of them seem like things I'd want to do. Is this Samsung just throwing AI at the wall to see what sticks, or do people actually use it for stuff?

I'm so far not digging some of the UI changes on my Fold 5 and Tab 8 Plus, but the default camera editing app now does have some of those useful Ai features like removing people from backgrounds, etc.

Drawboard offers Legacy versions

Remember waaayyy back when, when Drawboard switched from a one time purchase to a subscription model? There was major user uproar, because despite assurances to the contrary, they did put prior features behind a paywall even for people that already owned the software, most notably (ha) pressure sensitive ink and unlimited toolbar spots.

Well, it looks like they're finally ready to turn those one-star reviews back into five stars: there are legacy versions available for long-time users that include those previously removed features and that add some new goodies for added goodwill. If you're a disgruntled former user, give the legacy versions a look!

$10:00? So, not this then? Thought I bought the full version then but this is all I can find.

19th Try a Charm for iPadOS?

This time our old friend Mark Gurman is making the prediction - iPadOS 19, although NOT macOS, according to Gurman:

"According to Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter, Apple’s iPadOS 19 will “focus on productivity, multitasking and app window management — with an eye on the device operating more like a Mac.” It won’t quite be macOS for iPad, but Gurman notes that “the changes will likely go far enough” to please those users who are looking to get more out of the tablet’s software."

I bought my M1 iPad Pro, Pen 2, and Magic Keyboard just for this, yet year after year, disappointment after disappointment. However, just like every other rumor, this gets my heartbeat up and I keep thinking "maybe this time" especially if it would let a M4 iPad Air match most of the features of the m4 MacBook Air.

That's a good point, but iPadOS also needs to run real software across the board - Word, Excel, Powerpointless, Adobe Acrobat Pro, full desktop Safari, etc. No matter how much Apple and Microsoft want you to believe the iPadOS versions are as good, that is a flat out lie. In fact, the macOS version of Office 365 applications lack featurees (or they are so different they ae unuseful).

AND THAT may be the ultimate roadblock.

However, if there is any truth the continuing rumor of an 18" folding MacBook, maybe this is the step to the integrated tocu enabled macOS...

Or, I should be focusing on the unproven rumors of a 12" Surface Pro, as long as it is not much bigger than an 11" iPad Pro!
