One device to rule them all... not

I realize it's been nearly 3 decades when "pocket PCs" were on my radar with Palm and iPaqs. I had this notion that perhaps I could do all my computing on a portable device that could fit in my pocket.

I guess the modern smartphone has advanced quite a bit, but it still doesn't handle all my computing needs.

Now, upon reflection, I've strayed far from the idea of having a singular computing device.

Currently I regularly use:

-Windows gaming laptop, specifically with a discrete GPU to handle video and 3D rendering work

-Macbook Air specifically just to deploy stuff via XCode

05/05/26 Update: One day in and I already love this MBA. It reminds me so much of my two ancient ultraportables - the ThinkPad 60s and Toshiba Portege 3110. Small, light, and fast on its feet. Since I change computers more often than XX XXXXXXXXX it shouldn't matter, but at 32gb ram and 2tb ssd I'm about as future proof as possible (at least until the touch screen and 5g trickle down to MBA). Seriously, the screen is nearly as good as the SP11 OLED, but still behind the MBP 14. Even with my M1 iPP in the bag for external monitor support and note taking, it is barely noticeable in my bag. It could also use a touchscreen and another TB4 port on the right side, but it works flawlessly on my desk with the OWC TB4 Dock, so its like the MBP never left.

Three devices it is (until September)...

How Ironic...

...That Apple has a Neo and Surface does not.

...That Apple (and maybe Samsung?) might be preparing a "wide" folding cell phone while Microsoft cancelled the Duo years ago.

...That Asus has a (Zenbook) Duo...

What do you find ironic?

Try having an @Bronsky mindset.

E-Ink Comparison Channel

I've just stumbled across this YouTube channel that compares E-Ink displays.

He's not the most scientific about it, but he does just show the devices with consideration for balance (adjusting frontlights, etc.), and it's clearly not 'AI' nonsense.

AI Rears its Ugly Head in Pennsylvania.

Matthew Wolf, Esq., in an all too common scenario these days, has been called to answer for citations to and quotes from non-existant cases to a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Butler County, Pennsylvania (A/K/A God's Country or as some Pennsylvanians call it, Alabama). His firm, Wolf Dillion McCandless King Coulter & Grand, LLP (did everyone need their names in the firm letterhead?) claims that they did not use AI and the citations were proper. That should be a fairly easy lift for counsel or the courts, whoever is right. I know where my money is. Why did the judge pick this up and not Wolf's adversary? Is anybody reading the briefs anymore? Pa. judge questions AI hallucinations in gender-identity suit | 90.5 WESA
