Bigme Hibreak Color eInk phone

I finally pulled the trigger on it! I've been debating for months and months. I keep trying to use just eInk to limit my screen time and save my eyes as I enter the dreaded "you'll need reading glasses any day now" phase of life. We're headed to our music summer camp soon and I'll be taking some teacher training in addition to all my kids doing their various things. That means I'll be managing schedules in addition to a lot of notetaking, often outdoors in lots of beautiful natural light.

So I finally got the eInk phone to round out the camp tech. I will also take my Boox Tab Ultra C as a multipurpose machine for me, and the Boox Max Lumi as a sheet music library for the kids.

I'm a little nervous about service as it doesn't have all the US bands, and cell service is iffy there anyway. As long as it can keep my calendar and text with the kids, it should be good. I'll have the Z Fold as a backup, but it's showing it's age with shortened battery life these days. Or maybe it's the gaming I've been doing.

The screen is comparable in terms of color to the various color boox tablets I have, but the clarity is not as good. Speed is quite good though, it's snappier than I anticipated. I actually watched youtube video about the new Xbox handheld on it and it was smooth, just washed out as color eInk is. I just have a data sim in it for now, but when I feel like I've gotten all the apps I need on it to daily drive, I'll move my main phone sim over.

After 9 days in the woods of Michigan, I can confirm that service on the HiBreak is terrible. My z fold struggled, my husband's iPhone struggled, the HiBreak got nothing. After a few days I gave up on it and just carried the z fold.

That said, I still like it very much. It's so lightweight compared to the fold. The screen isn't the best eink screen I have, but it slips in a pocket like a phone, which automatically makes it the one I'll pick up the most because it's the one I can grab and have with me easily.

I'm sold on the eink screens too, after 9 days of heavy notetaking on the boox tab ultra c. A chunk of the back finally cracked off completely on my max lumi, so I'm looking into the current crop of 13" boox options now.
